Walyro

Walyro is a live wallpaper app for macOS built on one idea: the video moving on your desktop should be one of yours. You drop in an MP4 or MOV, choose which display it belongs to, and it loops behind your windows at whatever resolution it was shot at, 4K included.

Most Mac wallpaper apps are catalogs first. You browse their library, download a clip somebody else made, and the app itself ships outside the App Store. Walyro has no library to browse, and that is the deliberate part. Your files stay on the Mac, nothing uploads, there is no account, and the whole thing keeps working with the network off. If you want a wallpaper of the coast you filmed last summer, or the render you finished at 2am, that is the case this app was built for.

For the days when no clip feels right, Scenes draws one instead: aurora, gradient flow, starfield and bokeh, each with a set of palettes and a dial for how much it moves. They are rendered live rather than imported, so they take no disk space and never run out of loop.

What you get

- Per-display control — send a wallpaper to every screen, the main one, or a single monitor. Two monitors can run two different things at once.

- Playlists — group clips, set how long each one holds the desktop, play them in order or shuffled.

- Controls where your hands are — pause, skip or swap the wallpaper from the menu bar or the Now Playing panel, without opening the main window.

- Scenes — four generated looks with palettes and a motion dial, for when there is no footage worth using.

- Battery manners — playback pauses in Low Power Mode, and Scenes ease off when you unplug.

- Lock screen — optionally park a still frame of your video there so the two match.

- Five 4K clips bundled — enough to start with, and they do not count against the free tier.
